Smashing Pumpkins release new video for ‘Spellbinding’

The Smashing Pumpkins are set to embark on their highly anticipated North American The World Is A Vampire Tour and to celebrate the occasion, they have unveiled a new video for their single ‘Spellbinding.’ The song is part of their latest trilogy album, ‘ATUM,’ which showcases the band’s dedication to crafting immersive and intricate musical experiences.

Directed by Kevin Kerslake, the ‘Spellbinding’ video takes us on a journey into a digital world where each member of The Smashing Pumpkins exists as an avatar. This unique piece draws inspiration from video games and serves as a reflection of the band’s approach to their projects.

‘ATUM,’ a 33-track album written and produced by frontman Billy Corgan, follows in the footsteps of the band’s previous works, such as 1995’s ‘Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness’ and 2000’s ‘Machina/Machine of God.’ Each project delves into complex themes of technology, alternate universes, and intergalactic experiences, creating a deep and immersive musical landscape.

Speaking about the making of the video, Kerslake explains the virtual production model used to create it, utilizing the gaming engine “unreal” to bring the band’s digital avatars to life in captivating and fantastical worlds. The collaboration between Corgan and Kerslake represents a fusion of traditional and cutting-edge elements, pushing boundaries and breaking new ground.

Fans will have the opportunity to experience The Smashing Pumpkins‘ live performances on their summer tour, commencing on July 28. Joining them on this journey are renowned acts like Interpol, Stone Temple Pilots, and Rival Sons, promising an unforgettable musical experience for all attendees.
