Following his debut live show this past December at French tastemaker festival Les Trans Musicales, Parisian risk-taker Félix Burnod aka The Caracal Project unveils a brand new era with his ‘Self Reflections:’ EP.
Already teasing the project with a slew of singles like ‘Under The Northern Lights.’ and ‘I hope I don’t break your knees.’, track ‘Stone cold.’ saw early radio support with BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders describing it as a “utopia” that’s “trying to change the game.” The EP represents a shift for the artist, who started recording his own vocals and placing a particular emphasis on his live presence when a cliff-diffing accident at the height of his career catapulted him into a period of intense reflection and self-reckoning. His fully instrumental and vocal milestone debut show on the mainstage at the sold out Les Trans Musicales this past December was a glimpse into this newfound moment of expression, connection and vulnerability that allowed him to connect with his fans in a more meaningful way.
The producer’s haunting, genre-bending creations with backbones of steel draw inspiration from a diverse array of artists from Justice and Skrillex with vocal inspiration from the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Alex Turner. The producer has found collaborations in young rising star Moore Kismet, fellow partners in crime Buunshin & IMANU, former Noisa member Sleepent, dubsteps’ next-gen Leotrix and more.
The 6 track EP showcases a bold new Félix, a new era that still maintains his drum & bass roots while exploring fresh directions that toy with the unexpected. Silvery, mysterious and rousing laced with the heavier bass elements that have earned him such a loyal fanbase, ‘Self Reflections:’ is an ambitious triumph of epic proportions. There’s no glory without fear for the young producer, vocalist, and adventurer, and The Caracal Project continues to embrace the unknown. A pivotal moment in his career, he stands unflinching on the precipice of possibility.
