Skateboarding pioneer and legend, Patti McGee, passed away at the age of 79 due to complications from a stroke. Born on August 23, 1945, McGee became the first female professional skateboarder in 1965 and was the inaugural women’s national champion in 1964.
She was also the first-ever woman inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame, which happened in 2010. Patti McGee also gained widespread recognition after appearing on the cover of Life Magazine in May 1965, performing a handstand on her skateboard, and creating one of the most iconic cover shots and skate photographs ever. Rest in peace Patti, you will be missed!
