Following a run of more club-driven collabs including ‘Boomshaka’ with Danny Byrd and ‘1000 Days’ with Benny L, DJ, producer, and BBC Radio 1 presenter René LaVice gets set for his next release on his Device label. Switching the vibe René welcomes London based, Irish singer-songwriter Jess Young to the label for the release of their new single ‘Bad Luck.’ Jess was initially mentioned to René by a mutual friend some months back and before they knew it plans to work together were underway.
Having amassed a loyal fanbase from all corners of the globe, René LaVice is a true D&B heavyweight. His innovative releases include the likes of ‘Headlock’ and ‘The Calling’ feat. Ivy Mairi whilst officially remixing for a broad spectrum of artists including Grace Carter, Diplo, DJ Fresh, Craig David, and The Prodigy.
Meanwhile, Jess Young has developed her unique approach over recent years initially catching the attention of Platinum award-winning producer Tom Allom and Multi Emmy nominated, 3 times BAFTA-winning sound engineer Nigel Heath, however, this is the first time she has worked with an established electronic artist.
René commented “Whether we’ve fallen on hard times or we’re approaching something daunting, hearing a voice that identifies with the part of us that engages and grapples with feelings of self-doubt can have a really cathartic effect. While in lockdown and working on this track, the lyrics really spoke to me, and reminded me that it’s OK to feel the bad with the good, and that you’re still strong enough to keep going, even when things aren’t going well.”
Whilst Jess explains “working with René on this song over the lockdown period has reminded me that it doesn’t matter what life throws at you, you can always make a strong comeback. If things don’t go to plan, you have to hope for the best. Don’t let any setback keep you from making a comeback.”
