Following the success of his recent tour announcement and the anticipation surrounding his forthcoming third studio album ‘Don’t Die Before You’re Dead,’ AJ Tracey returns with a brand-new single, ‘Friday Prayer,’ featuring UK rap heavyweights Headie One and Aitch.
A striking reflection on resilience, ambition, and the realities of growing up in the end, ‘Friday Prayer’ sees AJ Tracey at his most introspective. Laced with hard-hitting bars and smooth flows, the track showcases AJ’s razor-sharp lyricism, complemented by Headie One’s signature drill cadence and Aitch’s effortless swagger. The single lands alongside a movie of a music video, directed by long-term collaborators Late-Milk, that sees AJ, Aitch, and Headie in a mansion playing tennis and gathering round the dinner table..
Faith is a recurring theme on the album, offering a complicated sense of salvation. ‘Friday Prayer’, produced by Nyge and featuring Aitch and Headie One, is a soulful reckoning with faith.
With standout lines such as “Where we came from nuttin’, ain’t fair, no guides cah olders never did care” and “I didn’t care ‘bout plaques or brits, I was tryna get girls and creps,” AJ paints a vivid picture of his journey from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of UK rap. The track also nods to the footballing finesse of Cole Palmer, with AJ rapping “I’m cold like Cole Palmer on a pen, if you like it then I love it,” cementing his reputation for blending cultural references with elite wordplay.
Set to feature on ‘Don’t Die Before You’re Dead’ — dropping 13th June via Revenge Records — ‘Friday Prayer’ continues to build momentum for what promises to be AJ Tracey’s most ambitious project to date. In late April, AJ is also set to embark on a unique run of sold-out live performances titled ‘Not Even A Tour’. This special string of shows will see the acclaimed rapper return to intimate venues across the UK, giving regional fans the chance to experience his high-energy sets up close.
Breaking from traditional touring formats, AJ invited fans to vote for their city via a sign-up page, ensuring the locations were chosen by the people who support him the most. The result? A series of intimate and exclusive performances, taking place in fan-favourite grassroots venues, bringing the heat of his upcoming album straight to the streets.
