‘Day Turns to Night’ is the second single to be released from the forthcoming Gang of Four EP, ‘Anti Hero.’ It was written and performed by Gang of Four vocalist John Sterry, styled as JJ Sterry. It follows the release of the first single ‘Forever Starts Now’ on May 29, 2020. ‘Day Turns To Night’ was written by John Sterry just days after Andy’s death and will be the first single for his JJ Sterry solo artist project, with a debut EP forthcoming later this year.
“I had no intention of it being about him,” says John. “It just came out that way and also I didn’t intend for it to be released. I often cloak lyrics with ambiguity and this felt too raw. But listening now, I’m glad I wrote it with no thought of where it might go – it’s just a pure distillation of the years I’d spent with Andy and the band.” He continues: “Thomas (Go4 bass player) produced it after Andy‘s wife (Catherine Mayer) heard the track and persuaded us to include it in the EP. “
