Kofi Stone released his highly-anticipated second album ‘A Man After God’s Own Heart’ via Tru Community. The album marks his first full-length release following his 2019 debut album ‘Nobody Cares Till Everybody Does,’ a defining introduction to Kofi’s introspective and deeply honest brand of Hip-hop, featuring the likes of Loyle Carner and Maverick Sabre.
‘A Man After God’s Own Heart’ is an assured and intentional leap forward since Kofi’s first project, and sees the Birmingham rapper bare all. The record stands as his most vulnerable work to date, exploring profound themes of love, faith, family and race, weaving a narrative that reveals both struggle and resilience – a concept that is gracefully illustrated on tracks such as ‘Black Joy’, ‘A Mother’s Love’ and album standout ‘May Sound Crazy’ featuring Benjamin Zephaniah. Writing the album sparked a life-changing amount of realization for Kofi, delving into his childhood experiences and personal history, but also the importance of his own relationship with God; beautifully portrayed on ‘I Owe It All’ and ‘You’ll Be Okay’.
Kofi sounds like a man reborn, finding solace and guidance in his spiritual growth, setting out to create a record that could act as any entry point for anyone that might also be on a journey of self-discovery. An ode to the story of King David – described throughout The Bible as a man after God’s own heart – Kofi was inspired by David’s dedication to deepening his understanding within himself, even in the midst of his own repentance. It’s a multifaceted narrative, but at its core is a powerful testament to the enduring impact of courage, leadership, and self-belief.
