The new single follows the release of October offering ‘Like Dat‘ featuring SL & Nemzzz, and to no surprise is a further display of M1’s ability to create street bangers and mainstream breakers in equal measure. With a natural flair for spotlighting the very best talent, this time M1onTheBeat joins forces with rising rapper Cristale.
She raps effortlessly over his hard-hitting beat, to which he has become instantly recognizable. ‘Sing Dat‘ is home to a melodious guitar riff, which to the listener, may seem more at home on an indie rock song than an up-tempo drill track – yet is proof of M1’s efforts of moving the sonic dimensions of drill further away from the source and breathing new life into the genre. The Jack Stangaard-directed video was teased online in the lead-up to release and has accumulated over 10M+ views across socials and sees the pair deliver a lively performance.
M1onTheBeat says: “When I started creating this beat, I wanted to try something different. The instrumental at its core is drill, but I’ve pushed the boundaries, challenged myself and added elements you wouldn’t typically hear on a beat of mine. By the time I had finished, there really was only one name that came to mind and that was Cristale. We’ve created something really special.”
Cristale adds: “‘Sing Dat’ is a fun, feel-good track that is a perfect example of how experimental music can and should be. I used my Caribbean roots to put a twist on a UK drill and it worked! When M1 asked me to be on this track I was honestly honoured as he’s responsible for a lot of the bangers that have come out of the UK.”
