Mustard unveils highly anticipated album ‘Faith Of A Mustard Seed’

‘Faith of a Mustard Seed’ isn’t just an album; it’s a journey. Through a mix of powerful tracks and storytelling skits, Mustard takes listeners on a deeply personal ride through his life, blending his iconic West Coast sound with gospel influences. The album’s skits, interspersed between tracks, craft a narrative that brings Mustard’s story to life, adding a rich layer of depth to the music.

 

The album opens with ‘Show Me the Way’, featuring a stirring choir led by Kirk Franklin, capturing Mustard’s dream before being awakened by his sister so he’s not late for school. ‘Up Now’ leads into a skit where we hear Mustard as a high schooler, asking a girl in his class if she plans on attending a party. ‘Pressured Up’ transports listeners to Mustard’s experiences at hood parties, recounting the mix of excitement and danger, from the abundance of women to potential brawls. ‘Parking Lot’ transitions into a skit where Mustard talks about heading to the legendary 7-7 at World on Wheels, nodding to LA’s vibrant roller-skating culture. ‘A Song for Mom’, featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Charlie Wilson, is a heartfelt tribute to Mustard’s mother, showcasing the singers’ soulful voices. ‘Yaks Prayer’, featuring Kodak Black, paints an audio picture of riding through the streets of LA, complete with the sounds of street vendors and city life. ‘Ghetto’, featuring Young Thug and Lil’ Durk, is an anthem celebrating the gritty reality of growing up in the ghetto. The album concludes with ‘Pray for Me’, where Mustard himself raps, sharing his story and bringing the album’s journey full circle.

 

In an interview on The Cruz Show, Mustard highlighted the personal significance of this album, particularly noting its perfect timing following his latest Summer 2024 hit, which marked his debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’. He elaborated on the album’s vulnerability, stating, “It’s just personal. I’ve never rapped before; it’s not something I’ve ever done, and all the songs mean something. It gives you a feeling.” Mustard even samples the voices of his own mother and sister on tracks like ‘Show Me the Way’ and ‘Pray for Me’, paying homage to his family, upbringing, and Los Angeles roots.
