NYC hardcore icons Shutdown reject toxic relationships on new single ‘Untouchable’

Legendary independent New York-based rock label Equal Vision Records and Shutdown are excited to present “Untouchable,” the latest single to be lifted from the Friday, January 17th, 2025 release of ‘By Your Side’, the New York City hardcore institution’s brand new, six-song EP. A visual homage to the Beastie Boys’ infamous ‘Shake Your Rump’ video, ‘Untouchable’, at its core, deals with toxicity and the relationships we maintain with those who take pleasure in the misery of others, and who are unable to deal with anyone else’s success or happiness. Taking aim at these people, the song enforces the message of not allowing these negative individuals to “touch” you in any way.

Director Jerry Farley had the following to share about ‘Untouchable’: “To me, this goes out to people who say ‘you can’t’ or ‘you shouldn’t’ … But you straight-up don’t let them get in your way because deep down, they want to tear down what you do. They don’t have the courage themselves so they figure if they can’t, why should you! The internet can also bring out the worst in some people. We are really trying to keep with that positive Shutdown message: we can’t be touched, we won’t be stopped, we will persevere and be ourselves.”

On the heels of last year’s ‘Still… Against All Odds’ EP, ‘By Your Side’, Shutdown’s first offering of new material in 24 years, is a collection of passionate songs that are fueled by the same fiery intensity of the band’s youth, but imbued and inspired by an outlook, worldview and wisdom that only comes with age and time. At the same time, however, this EP easily transcends the genre and shows how effectively the band can write songs that appeal beyond the confines of the scene.
