Old City recruit Burn’s Chaka Malik for the new single ‘DK3’

“When it’s crunchtime, I break fast & skate past the police,” boasts Tr38cho (aka Tre Marsh) in Old City‘s latest single ‘DK3.’ ‘DK3’ is a Philly-adapted version of Ralph Ellison’s novel ‘Invisible Man.’

The bongo-laden track sets a backdrop that is sped through by a narrator as he runs through a not-so-fictional dystopia with no sense of time or direction. Like Ellison’s 1952 novel, ‘DK3’ paints a scene that casually displays the social and political issues of its time but consumedly tearing it apart on a skateboard.

Sampling Dead Kennedys for the third time, the song smoothly transitions between the ominous martial-style drums that the Kennedys were known for and more organic Afro-Cuban rhythms to create something a tone that is more fluid in nature. The song also features a vocal contribution by Chaka Malik, singer of the legendary NYHC hardcore band Burn.
