Montreal’s Simple Plan dropped the official video for a brand-new version of ‘I’m Just a Kid,’ featuring Canadian rising star Lølø, an Amazon Exclusive Single only available on Amazon Music.
20 years ago, their debut album, ‘No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls,’ featuring ‘I’m Just A Kid,’ was unleashed into the world. The chart-breaking hit was featured in many movies such as ‘The New Guy,’ an introduction to the world of Simple Plan and their music, to a new generation of punk-pop music lovers.
Two decades later, the award-winning hit still touches so many, including a new younger generation, thanks to social media. The #ImJustAKid challenge trend on TikTok has over 4.7 billion views and more than 3.41million videos, including clips from the likes of Ed Sheeran, Usher, Drew Barrymore, Venus, and Serena Williams.
“It’s not every day that one of your favorite bands of all time asks you to feature on arguably one of the most iconic songs of your generation,” said Lølø on the collaboration. “If you would have told 7-year-old me that one day I would be singing this song WITH SIMPLE PLAN, instead of in my basement alone, I would have probably dropped dead on the spot. Working with the guys on this version of ‘I’m Just a Kid’ and getting to sing it with them on stage at So What Fest has definitely been one of the coolest experiences of my life. P.S. I’m still convinced this isn’t actually real and I’m being punked.”
Simple Plan added: “Now more than ever, we appreciate the gift of having songs that resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds and become an important part of their lives. ‘I’m Just A Kid’ has been one of these special songs for us and we’re so grateful for everyone who has listened to it and enjoyed it over the years. It has become a signature song for our band, especially after the craziness of the TikTok challenge and the billions of plays that came with it. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the song release, we thought it would be fun to give our fans a new updated version of the song with our friend LøLø. We always loved collaborating with young artists that keep pop-punk fresh and exciting and it’s rad to be able to use our platform to showcase their talent. This is what our scene is all about. We hope you enjoy this new version and can’t wait to see you on tour all over the world!”
The band’s 6th album, ‘Harder Than It Looks’ is available everywhere now!
